4 of Many Depressing TV Shows

4: House
I personally love this show, but the more I get to know the main character, Dr. House, the worse I feel for him. I realized it would suck to be a genius, because then you'd always be mad at everyone around you for being so stupid compared to you, and you'll never be able to find anyone worth being with unless they were on the same level as you.

Think about it.

3: MTV Cribs

Okay, who seriously wants to watch 30 minutes of rich celebrities showing off how rich they are by showing us their home(s)??? Especially since most of the people who watch MTV are middle class people who cannot become rich unless they have some crazy talent. You see people with like 5 cars that they don't even use, and you wish you had money like that. Trust me, after a few episodes, you'll feel like a failure.

2: Toddlers & Tiaras.

First off, let me say these parents are ridiculous. I don't understand how they could think children that look like this are beautiful:

Seriously? It's creepy as hell. I don't think I could ever understand why people think 5-year-olds with tons of makeup on are cute, adorable, pretty, etc.
I think it's gross.

But anyway.
This show really depresses the hell out of me. Those little girls are going to grow up and be so superficial and their parents are definitely going to be in debt. Most people on this show base their lives around making sure their child wins, and they spend up to $5,000 just to (try to) win up to $1,000 and a plastic trophy. Not only do they lose useful money, but child beauty pageants teach little girls that they have to be pretty and wear makeup to get things in life. I'm angry at the judges also, because they're the ones who decide who's the "prettiest".
But it all comes down to the parents. Come on now. Shaving little girls legs? Making them wear fake teeth to hide the only natural childishness they have that they can't cover up with makeup or get rid of? Putting extensions in their hair, fake eyelashes, and don't even get me started on the makeup.

What has the world come to?
How can you not be depressed watching this show???

1: Wife Swap.

Oh man. This show really makes you wonder how many nutcase families there are out there. Today, they were giving like some marathon or something, and usually I can't even watch 5 minutes of it, but today since I was so bored I stuck through the whole marathon.
So for those of you who don't watch Wife Swap, it's basically a show where they take two dysfunctional families and make the wives switch places for two weeks.
Today I think I saw three of the saddest episodes.
In the first one, the families were an obese woman with a husband and son who were addicted to video games and never spoke or went outside, and a strict athletic lady who's whole family was into some sport or the other. So the athletic lady made the husband go to a therapist to help him out with his addiction, and then his son was telling him why he wanted him to get over the addiction. So the little boy says, "I just want us to hang out like we used to. And the only reason I'm trying is cause I don't have anyone else. I don't have any friends around me." And I was just like "AWWW D;" And I seriously almost cried. It was so sad. And then when they showed the ending and if they changed since the show, they did not change at all. This was extremely sad, cause I just think about how that little boy is going to be when he gets older.

The second one I saw was about a woman who treated raising children as a business, and they made everything like boot camp for them. In the neighborhood, the parents actually drew a line (Literally) of where they can't go further down the block. So they never met any other kids in their neighborhood, and they had no friends. They said they felt like dying sometimes and that they were always sad. Then, when the pairs of parents were discussing the week, the mom said, "Our children's happiness is not important, our lives aren't centered around that!" And I was just like, "What kind of parent doesn't care if their child is happy or not???"

The third one was about a family who extremely isolated their kids, and then when the new wife came she went to see the son outside in the yard and she asked him what he was doing and he said, "Nothing, just playing with my stick." because that was the only friend he had. Seriously, man. Then at the end of the show, the new wife finally got him a friend, and he was like, "I guess I can play with my stick once in a while, but now I have a friend, so I can play with him sometimes, too!" And that was just sad.

Yeah, so this is why Wife Swap is the number one depressing show I've seen so far.

  1. I absolutely agree with you about House. I really enjoy the show but sometimes I just cannot watch it. I want them to reach a conclusion, ANY conclusion. However, perhaps the show will have greater resonance if the writers leave it empty.

I think what is most depressing about House is that the guy is a good man who deserves something. He heals people daily, the result of him being the way he is is a lot of good but nothing seems to truly work out for him. It is a little frustrating for me to watch.
